Abstract:
One embodiment of the present invention relates to an ankle prosthesis. Another embodiment of the present invention relates to a total ankle replacement prosthesis. Another embodiment of the present invention relates to an ankle replacement (partial or total) which is adapted, for example: (a) to treat arthritis of the ankle (e.g., ankle arthritis of any cause: after precious trauma; primary; malalignment induced; after hindfoot fusion; from recurrent ankle instability; rheumatoid or inflammatory arthritis; gout; local growth; dysplasia; growth plate arrest; avascular necrosis; hemophilia; distant septic event); (b) to revise a fused ankle; and/or (c) to treat trauma. The ankle replacement may be carried out by replacing one or more joint surfaces of an ankle joint. Another embodiment of the present invention relates to a method for inserting an ankle prosthesis.

Abstract:
A method according to embodiments of the present invention for repairing an Achilles tendon that has completely or partially ruptured leaving a distal stump extending from a calcaneus and a proximal stump, the proximal stump having a proximal stump end, and the distal stump having a distal stump end, includes attaching a first suture to the distal stump, positioning an augmentation patch against an anterior portion of the Achilles tendon, attaching a second suture to the proximal stump and to the augmentation patch, apposing the proximal stump end and the distal stump end such that a gap between the proximal stump end and distal stump end is minimized or eliminated, joining the first suture with the second suture to secure the proximal stump to the distal stump, and attaching the augmentation patch to the calcaneus.

Systems and methods for stabilizing portions of bone are provided. In some aspects, a bone plate system includes a plate configured to be fastened to at least one bone portion. The plate includes a keel slot and a locking assembly. The bone plate system also includes a keel configured to extend into the at least one bone portion through the keel slot. The locking assembly is configured to substantially prevent the keel from dislodging from the plate when the keel extends into the at least one bone portion through the keel slot.
