Drill Pipe Conveyed Logging System

View page
US Patent:
47995467, Jan 24, 1989
Filed:
Oct 23, 1987
Appl. No.:
7/111758
Inventors:
Donald E. Hensley - Houston TX
E. Edward Rankin - Houston TX
Martin L. Tomek - Houston TX
David M. Moody - Spring TX
Assignee:
Halliburton Company - Duncan OK
International Classification:
E21B 2308
E21B 4700
US Classification:
166250
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for drill pipe conveyed logging is disclosed. In a highly deviated well borehole, the apparatus comprises a housing for surrounding a logging tool, lockable and releasable rotating standoff means along said housing, and weights along one side to rotate said housing against or relative to the low side of the deviated well bore. The apparatus further includes rotary means joining the housing to the pipe string. A male wet connector enclosed in a sealed capsule is affixed at the top end of the housing and is electrically connected to the logging tool. A cooperative female wet connector in a similar closed capsule is supported on a logging cable. The logging cable is pumped down, mechanical connection is made, separate electrical connection between the mating connectors is made, and drilling fluid is excluded by virtue of positioning the mating connectors in separate closed capsules which are filled with a selected insulating liquid. A method of operation for connection and disconnection is also disclosed.

Abstract:
A blender apparatus is disclosed having a chassis, a mixer positioned on the chassis, and a transfer pump positioned on the chassis. The mixer has a mixer housing defining a first mixer inlet, a second mixer inlet, and a mixer outlet. The first mixer inlet receives a liquid component, and the second mixer inlet receives a dry component. The mixer pressurizes at least the liquid component within the housing and discharges the liquid component through the mixer outlet at a first pressure above hydrostatic pressure. The transfer pump has a pump housing defining a pump inlet, a pump outlet and is devoid of an inlet configured to receive a dry component through a gravity feed. The transfer pump receives the liquid component through the pump inlet, pressurizes the liquid component within the pump housing, and discharges the liquid component through the pump outlet at a second pressure above hydrostatic pressure.
