Support Structures For Molded Parts

View page
US Patent:
20080142187, Jun 19, 2008
Filed:
Dec 19, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/612670
Inventors:
Nabeel Mark Jadeed - Cincinnati OH, US
Charles Frank Benjey - Hamilton OH, US
Donald F. Heaney - Philipsburg PA, US
Assignee:
ETHICON ENDO-SURGERY, INC. - Cincinnati OH
International Classification:
B22C 21/14
US Classification:
164386
Abstract:
Structures and methods for hindering molded part deformation during densification are discussed. Such devices and techniques can help alleviate stresses that tend to result in part deformation during firing, sintering, or other densification processes, and thus reduce the need for secondary straightening operations post-densification. In some instances, a support structure is utilized to orient a molded greenbody in a preferred direction to reduce deformation during firing (e.g., orienting a thin tail section is a plane parallel to the direction of gravity). The support structure can also be part of, or the entirety of, a thermal mass to help alleviate stresses that lead to part deformation. Though such structures and methods can be used for any molded piece, it can be particularly used to create a portion, or an entirety of, a medical device such as a jaw of an surgical instrument.

Tissue Retrieval Device With Resilient Member

View page
US Patent:
20110184311, Jul 28, 2011
Filed:
Jan 25, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/692727
Inventors:
Shailendra K. Parihar - Mason OH, US
Patrick J. Minnelli - Harrison OH, US
Gregory W. Johnson - Milford OH, US
Mark J. Bookbinder - Blue Ash OH, US
Nabeel M. Jadeed - Cincinnati OH, US
International Classification:
A61B 10/02
A61B 17/50
US Classification:
600562, 606114
Abstract:
A specimen retrieval instrument comprises a tubular member, a resilient member, and a retrieval bag. The resilient member is associated with a distal end of the tubular member. The bag is secured to the resilient member. The resilient member is compressible such that the resilient member and bag fit within a hollow interior portion of the tubular member. A rod may advance the resilient member and bag out of the tubular member. Alternatively, the tubular member may comprise a sheath that is retractable to reveal the resilient member and bag. The resilient member may have a hoop, spiral, or rolled strip configuration. The resilient member may alternatively comprise telescoping arms. The resilient member opens the bag when the resilient member and bag are deployed relative to the tubular member. The resilient member may also unfurl the bag when the resilient member and bag are deployed.

13/457887
Inventors:
Stephen J. BALEK - Springboro OH, US
William D. DANNAHER - Jiangsu, CN
Cory G. KIMBALL - Cincinnati OH, US
David L. KOHN - Edgewood KY, US
Galen C. ROBERTSON - Durham NC, US
Kip M. RUPP - New Richmond OH, US
Eric B. SMITH - Cincinnati OH, US
Richard C. SMITH - Milford OH, US
Karalyn R. TELLIO - Cincinnati OH, US
Nabeel M. Jadeed - Cincinnati OH, US
International Classification:
A61N 7/02
A61B 17/32
US Classification:
606169
Abstract:
An ultrasonic assembly that is configured to permit selective cutting, coagulation, and fine dissection required in fine and delicate surgical procedures. The balanced blade provides a rounded distal end and concave edges to promote fine dissection and cutting in a variety of surgical procedures. The blade is curved for improved visibility at the blade tip and is designed to provide a multitude of tissue effects: coagulation, cutting, dissection, spot coagulation, tip penetration and tip scoring. The assembly features hand activation configured to provide an ergonomical grip and operation for the surgeon. The assembly further features user selectable blade rotation. A finger switch is placed in the range of the natural axial motion of the user's index finger, whether gripping the surgical instrument right-handed or left handed.
