Package For Safe Storage Of Electrophilic Fluorinating Agent

View page
US Patent:
6365246, Apr 2, 2002
Filed:
Sep 29, 1998
Appl. No.:
09/162281
Inventors:
Robert George Syvret - Allentown PA
James Joseph Hart - Fogelsville PA
Andrew Joseph Woytek - Allentown PA
Frank Michael Prozonic - Allentown PA
Assignee:
Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. - Allentown PA
International Classification:
B29D 2200
US Classification:
428 357, 215306
Abstract:
An economical means of safely âcontainingâ or âpackagingâ commercial electrophilic fluorination agents whereby these agents are readily stored and transported in a package, typically without loss of âF â activity, and in a form which is readily and directly useable, i. e. , in solution or a slurry. Importantly, the solution/slurry medium provides a tremendous safety margin for storage and transportation since the solution medium has an enormous ability to absorb heat (due to the latent heat of vaporization of the liquid) relative to the contained active fluorination agent.

Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. - Allentown PA
International Classification:
B01J 2706
US Classification:
502224, 502226, 502227, 502228, 502229, 502231
Abstract:
Active fluoride catalysts that are useful in producing electrophilic fluorination agents; especially useful in producing BDM from the reaction of fluorine with carbon dioxide and FTM from the reaction of fluorine with carbonyl fluoride. The fluoride catalyst comprises a mixture of two or more fluorides selected from a transition metal fluoride, an alkali metal fluoride and/or an alkaline earth metal fluoride. Alternately, the fluoride catalyst is one or more fluorides, such as alkali metal fluorides, alkaline earth metal fluorides, and/or transition metal fluorides, deposited on an inert support.

Method For Nitrogen Trifluoride Production

View page
US Patent:
6984366, Jan 10, 2006
Filed:
Oct 16, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/687073
Inventors:
Robert George Syvret - Allentown PA, US
Beth Ann Campion - Allentown PA, US
Gregory Alan Cooper - Wernersville PA, US
Joan Marie Schork - Allentown PA, US
Assignee:
Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. - Allentown PA
International Classification:
C01B 21/083
US Classification:
423406, 423483
Abstract:
A method for the production of nitrogen trifluoride from a fluorine reactant and an ammonium ion source that is dispersed within a liquid phase reaction mixture containing one or more perfluorocarbon fluids is disclosed herein. In one embodiment, the fluorine reactant is introduced to the reaction mixture at a temperature that ranges from 90 C. to 120 C. In this embodiment, the percentage yield of nitrogen trifluoride may be about 80% or greater.

Process For Purifying Fluoroxy Compounds

View page
US Patent:
7002040, Feb 21, 2006
Filed:
Jan 28, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/353211
Inventors:
Robert George Syvret - Allentown PA, US
Philip Bruce Henderson - Allentown PA, US
Donald Elson Fowler - Coopersburg PA, US
Beth Ann Campion - Allentown PA, US
Assignee:
Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. - Allentown PA
International Classification:
C07C 53/00
C07C 55/00
US Classification:
562849, 562850, 562853
Abstract:
This invention relates generally to a improvement in a process for the purification of fluoroxy compounds, such as bis(fluoroxy)difluoromethane and fluoroxytrifluoromethane produced by the fluorination of carbon oxides. The improvement in effecting purification of the fluoroxy compounds is effected by initially selectively removing the fluorine by contacting with a crystalline zeolite and then removing the carbon oxide by selective adsorption.
