Quick Mounting Arrangement For Light Fixtures In Overhead Cabinets And The Like

View page
US Patent:
52267199, Jul 13, 1993
Filed:
Jun 8, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/896103
Inventors:
Michael J. Feldpausch - Hastings MI
Stephen J. Feldpausch - Hastings MI
Albert O. Selen - Plainwell MI
Assignee:
Steelcase Inc. - Grand Rapids MI
International Classification:
F21V 3300
US Classification:
362133
Abstract:
A quick mounting arrangement detachably mounts a light fixture or the like in an overhead cabinet of a furniture article. Front and rear mounting ledges are located in the lower portion of the cabinet and are oriented to generally face one another. Two fixed latches protrude from the rear of the light fixture and include a clip to hold a power cord and the light, and at least one reciprocating latch protrudes from the front side of the light fixture. Each reciprocating latch is a one-piece molded part including a body adapted to slidingly fit in a shaped aperture in the light fixture, a first leg adapted to abuttingly engage the front mounting ledge, and a second leg extending at an angle from the first leg free end toward the light fixture to form a ramp. During installation, the light fixture is positioned at an angle so that the fixed latch rests on the rear ledge, and the reciprocating latch is positioned ready to be rotated toward the front ledge. As the light fixture is rotated upwardly, the reciprocating latch engages the front ledge, causing the second leg to ramp against the front ledge and bias the first leg to a recessed position.

Wheel Assembly

US Patent:
57161070, Feb 10, 1998
Filed:
Sep 17, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/714895
Inventors:
Brian G. Parker - Alto MI
Albert Selen - Plainwell MI
Bruce E. Harrison - Warsaw IN
Steven R. Laney - Warsaw IN
Assignee:
Cascade Engineering, Inc. - Grand Rapids MI
International Classification:
B60B 2702
US Classification:
301111
Abstract:
A reusable, releasably lockable wheel assembly comprising a wheel having a centrally disposed hub defining an aperture in which is received an axle. A spring having diametrically opposed lugs is disposed on one side of the hub and the lugs extend into the aperture of the hub so that when the axle is inserted into the aperture, the lugs are biased into the groove on the end of the axle to lock the wheel to the axle. The lugs can be forced outwardly by a tool to withdraw the lugs from the groove so that the axle can be unlocked with respect to the wheel for removal of the wheel. In one embodiment, cooperation between a wheel cover and the spring limits slidable movement between the wheel and axle. In another embodiment, cooperation between an end cap on the wheel hub and the spring limits the slidable movement.
