Resistance System For Fitness Equipment

View page
US Patent:
7887468, Feb 15, 2011
Filed:
Jul 18, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/176017
Inventors:
Glenn D. Ross - Marietta GA, US
Brad R. Olschansky - Roswell GA, US
Scott M. Olschansky - Roswell GA, US
Kevin G. Abelbeck - Fort Collins CO, US
Assignee:
Exersmart, LLC - Roswell GA
International Classification:
A63B 21/00
US Classification:
482 92
Abstract:
A resistance system for fitness equipment includes a frame, a resistance source such as an elastic cord, coil or any other type of spring, weight, pneumatic or hydraulic cylinders. The resistance source is mounted to a resistance block with a load support. A support disk is provided that is movably mounted to the frame and adapted to enable selective engagement with the load support. A transmission member, including a pliable member such as a cable, belt or other member, is coupled to the resistance source. Movement of the support disk enables selective engagement of the resistance source. In this way one or more individual resistance sources can be selectively engaged or disengaged to vary the resistance to the user by actuation of a dial or other actuator as directed by the user.

US Patent:
7981014, Jul 19, 2011
Filed:
Jun 25, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/146068
Inventors:
Glenn D. Ross - Marietta GA, US
Brad R. Olschansky - Roswell GA, US
Scott M. Olschansky - Roswell GA, US
Kevin G. Abelbeck - Fort Collins CO, US
Assignee:
Exersmart, LLC - Marietta GA
International Classification:
A63B 21/04
US Classification:
482129, 482130
Abstract:
A resistance system for an exercise device includes a frame, a resistance element such as elastic bands, coil springs, weight plates, pneumatic or hydraulic cylinders. An interference element such as a plate, chain or one or more links is supported by a support plate mounted on the frame. Selective engagement with the resistance element is provided by actuation of a dial, other actuator or controller or directly by the user. Thereby the resistance element can be selectively engaged or disengaged to vary the resistance to the user.

Exercise Device With Varied Gait Movements

US Patent:
8109861, Feb 7, 2012
Filed:
Oct 26, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/911970
Inventors:
Joel D. Gordon - Owings Mills MD, US
Kevin G. Abelbeck - Fort Collins CO, US
Glenn D. Ross - Marietta GA, US
Brad R. Olschansky - Marietta GA, US
Scott M. Olschansky - Marietta GA, US
Assignee:
Exerciting, LLC - Marietta GA
International Classification:
A63B 22/00
A63B 22/04
A63B 71/00
US Classification:
482 52, 482 51
Abstract:
An exercise device for performing a variety of movement patterns is provided, having an upper link pivotally mounted to a lower leg link and a foot support on a distal end of the lower leg link. A first transfer system is movably coupled to a frame and including a first transfer member coupled to the first upper leg link and a second transfer member coupled to the second upper leg link, thereby enabling substantially reciprocating motion of the first leg link relative to the second leg link. A second transfer system is also provided and may be movably coupled to the frame and including a pair of third transfer members coupled to each of a pair of fourth transfer members by way of each of a pair of transfer couplings, each movably mounted to the frame. The fourth transfer members may be coupled to the first lower leg link and the second lower leg link, whereby movement of the first lower leg link causes movement of the second lower leg link irrespective of movement of the upper leg links thereby providing a stable platform for the user and also enabling an infinite number of gait patters by the user.

Kevin G. Abelbeck - Fort Collins CO, US
Glenn D. Ross - Marietta GA, US
Brad R. Olschansky - Marietta GA, US
Scott M. Olschansky - Marietta GA, US
Assignee:
Exerciting, LLC - Marietta GA
International Classification:
A63B 22/00
A63B 22/04
A63B 71/00
US Classification:
482 52, 482 51
Abstract:
An exercise device for performing a variety of movement patterns is provided, having upper right and left leg links pivotally mounted to lower right and left leg links respectively. The upper leg links are pivotally coupled to the frame. A foot support is provided on the distal end of the lower leg links. The device includes first and second transfer systems for coordinating movement of the right and left sets of upper and lower leg links. The first transfer system is movably coupled to the frame and includes a first transfer member coupled to the first upper leg link, a second transfer member coupled to the second upper leg link, and a pivot bar pivotally mounted to the frame between a first end and a second end thereof with the first end coupled to the first transfer member and the second end coupled to the second transfer member.

Portable Exercising System

US Patent:
53725662, Dec 13, 1994
Filed:
Jul 27, 1993
Appl. No.:
8/097209
Inventors:
Brad Olschansky - Smyrna GA
Scott Olschansky - Smyrna GA
Assignee:
Torso Technology, Inc. - Smyrna GA
International Classification:
A63B 2600
US Classification:
482140
Abstract:
This invention directs itself to a portable exercising system (10) which includes a stabilization mechanism (24) for contact with a resistive force load applying mechanism which may be a user's feet (22) or a stationary rigid object such as a door (62). The stabilization mechanism (24) is coupled to a force load application mechanism (38) through an adjustable securement mechanism (46) which adjusts the displacement distance between the stabilization mechanism (24) and the force load application mechanism (38) in a transverse direction (30). The force load application mechanism (38) contiguously interfaces and contacts the front of the user's thighs (14) while the user's feet (22) are mounted to and hold the stabilization mechanism (24) against a base surface (18). In this manner, a wedge type force action is applied to the user and during particular exercises such as sit-up type exercises, the user isolates a particular muscle group such as the abdominal muscle group which enhances and maximizes the efficiency of a particular exercise.

Abstract:
A system (100) particularly directed to exercising gluteal and thigh muscles is provided. System (100) includes a longitudinally extended handle member (110) and assembly (150) for engaging a heel portion of a user's foot. A resistive force assembly (120) is coupled on a first end to a central portion of the handle member (110) and on an opposing second end to the heel engagement assembly (150). The resistive force assembly (120) includes an inelastic resistive force subassembly having an inelastic strap member (132) coupled on a first end (138) to handle member (110) and a second end (136) formed in a closed contour. Inelastic resistive force subassembly (130) includes an adjustment buckle (135) for adjusting an overall length dimension of the inelastic strap member (132). Resistive force assembly (120) includes an elastic resistive force subassembly (140) defined by an elastic strap member (142) having opposing ends thereof coupled to a heel engagement assembly (150) and an intermediate section thereof slidingly coupled to the closed contoured end (136) of inelastic strap member (132).
