Method For Process-Specific Exchange Of Data Between Machines In A Network

View page
US Patent:
6338084, Jan 8, 2002
Filed:
Dec 17, 1998
Appl. No.:
09/213923
Inventors:
Charles Vaughn Rankin - Austin TX
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06F 1300
US Classification:
709214, 709213, 709312, 709329
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method for process-specific exchange of data between machines in a computer network. Each machine runs a plurality of processes. The method includes providing a plurality of clipboards for at least one machine in the computer network, where each clipboard of the plurality of clipboards corresponds to one of the processes running on the at least one machine; and storing data concerning a process of the plurality of processes onto its corresponding clipboard. Because the method of the present invention is process-based, machines may obtain data concerning certain processes on certain machines without the problem of the latest data on a process being overwritten by another process. Since the clipboards of the present invention may reside on a third party, if one or more of the machines in the network fail or are otherwise unavailable, the data on their clipboards are not lost.

US Patent:
6959433, Oct 25, 2005
Filed:
Apr 14, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/550387
Inventors:
Rene Morales, Jr. - Austin TX, US
Charles Vaughn Rankin - Austin TX, US
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:

US Classification:
717127, 717101, 717131, 717135
Abstract:
A data processing system, method, and program including an automated software test environment are disclosed for automatically testing a software application. A work flow manager is established for automatically managing the automated software test environment. The automated software test environment includes multiple computer systems coupled to a server computer system utilizing a network. The work flow manager is executed utilizing the server computer system. Multiple ordered test phases are established. At least each of two of the order test phases are executed utilizing different ones of the computer systems. An event is transmitted to the work flow manager utilizing one of the computer systems to start execution of selected ones of the ordered test phases. The work flow manager controls execution of the selected ordered test phases in response to the receipt of events.

Dynamic Creation Of An Application's Xml Document Type Definition (Dtd)

View page
US Patent:
7143343, Nov 28, 2006
Filed:
Apr 11, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/122033
Inventors:
David Michael Bender - Austin TX, US
Sharon Jean Lucas - Austin TX, US
Charles Vaughn Rankin - Austin TX, US
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06F 15/00
US Classification:
715513, 715517, 715530
Abstract:
The system, method and program of the invention enables a new DTD to be dynamically created during runtime from a preexisting DTD. A next document is processed and validated according to the new DTD. An interface is provided that enables plug-in providers to provide fragments of DTD information for at least one new element to be added and the name of the element that is to be added to an existing parameter entity. All of the fragments from each plug-in provider are concatenated together and combined with the static header information of the preexisting DTD to form the new DTD.

System And Method For Restoring Desktop Components Using Distributed Desktop Packages

View page
US Patent:
7310775, Dec 18, 2007
Filed:
Dec 17, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/322100
Inventors:
Michael Richard Cooper - Austin TX, US
Jason Robert Kersten - Taylor TX, US
Charles Vaughn Rankin - Austin TX, US
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06F 17/30
G06F 17/40
G06F 17/10
US Classification:
715736, 715749, 715853, 702202
Abstract:
A system and method that centrally manages desktop packages is provided allowing the administrator to recover component files previously sent to servers located throughout the organization. Applications are assigned to users and workstations. Self-contained desktop packages are transmitted to servers. The servers, in turn, provide the desktop packages to clients. The packages and the components included in the packages include unique identifiers used to identify the packages and components. A manifest is maintained detailing the individual components included in each of the self-contained desktop files. When a disaster event occurs at the administrator's computer system, the administrator retrieves the self-contained desktop files from the servers to which the packages were previously transmitted. The administrator repopulates the component libraries by unpacking the components from the self-contained desktop files. The administrator uses the manifest to determine whether additional self-contained package files need to be retrieved from other servers.
