US Patent:
7771702, Aug 10, 2010
Filed:
Feb 20, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/371188
Inventors:
Darrell P. Eyman - Iowa City IA, US
Christopher Brooks - Raymond OH, US
Assignee:
University of Iowa Research Foundation - Iowa City IA
Honda Motor Co., Ltd. - Tokyo
International Classification:
C01B 3/26
B01J 23/10
B01J 23/22
B01J 23/42
B01J 23/44
B01J 23/46
B01J 23/755
US Classification:
423652, 423653, 423654, 502304, 502308, 502309, 502324, 502327, 502332, 502333, 502334, 502335, 502355
Abstract:
The invention provides active, affordable, durable, and sulfur-tolerant catalysts and related precursors and processes useful in hydrogen production. The catalysts have a wide applicability. For example, in one embodiment, the invention provides sulfur-tolerant catalysts which, when used in a catalytic fuel processor, will facilitate sufficient hydrogen generation within 30 seconds or so of automobile start-up to generate around 50 kW of fuel cell power. Catalysts of the instant invention are made by reducing a catalyst precursor comprising a support phase impregnated with one or more elemental transition metals, wherein:Ni—VO—ZrO/AlOcatalysts of the instant invention are preferred.

Catalyst For Supported Molten Salt Catalytic Dehydrogenation Of Methanol

View page
US Patent:
50892452, Feb 18, 1992
Filed:
Apr 9, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/506641
Inventors:
Darrell P. Eyman - Iowa City IA
Katherine B. Gloer - Iowa City IA
Andrew D. Schmitz - Iowa City IA
Assignee:
Accel Catalysis, Inc. - Iowa City IA
International Classification:
C01B 302
C01B 3100
US Classification:
423415A
Abstract:
The present invention involves conversion of methanol, a relatively abundant and inexpensive, yet low energy fuel, to carbon monoxide and hydrogen, which have higher heats of combustion. The catalytic dehydrogenation of methanol is an endothermic process. heat+CH. sub. 3 OH. revreaction. CO+2H. sub. 2 (1) A new and efficient catalyst technology which promotes high methanol conversion and excellent selectivity for CO and H. sub. 2 in this reaction would have several practical applications. Results clearly demonstrate that it is feasible to employ SMSC technology in the development of catalyst systems with commercial applications for methanol dehydrogenation.

Catalyst Dispersed In Supported Molten Salt

View page
US Patent:
48988456, Feb 6, 1990
Filed:
Dec 12, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/283402
Inventors:
Ravindra Datta - Iowa City IA
Darrell P. Eyman - Iowa City IA
Assignee:
University of Iowa Research Foundation - Iowa City IA
International Classification:
B01J 2342
B01J 2374
US Classification:
502 3
Abstract:
A new method for the use of microcrystallites of various materials as catalysts. The materials include metals, metal alloys and mixtures, and intermetallic compounds all of which are used as heterogeneous catalysts on porous supports. The method is different in that the microcrystallites are dispersed in molten salts which are to be used as a thin film coated on the internal surface of porous supports.
