Systems For Illuminating And Evaluating Surfaces

View page
US Patent:
51444950, Sep 1, 1992
Filed:
Sep 4, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/755023
Inventors:
Henry A. Merton - Slidell LA
James R. Diefenthal - New Orleans LA
William D. Radigan - New Orleans LA
Soumitra Sengupta - New Orleans LA
Emmett J. Lenaz - New Orleans LA
Assignee:
Compugrade, Inc - New Orleans LA
International Classification:
G02B 2702
US Classification:
359798
Abstract:
Systems and methods for illuminating an object surface with light at varying angles of incidence and for optically evaluating the object surface for features and defects, etc. are disclosed. In a specific implementation the systems and methods, the target object comprises a coin and the illumination and evaluation techniques are used to accurately objectively evaluate the numismatic quality of the coin and/or identify the coin. Central to the illumination and evaluation techniques is the ability to apply a uniform confined beam of light to the surface of the target object to be imaged. The confined angles of incidence of the beam of light includes a perpendicular component angle of incidence range and a parallel component angle of incidence range relative to the object surface. The component ranges are defined such a light beam illuminates the object surface from a well-defined direction. The direction and the extent of light beam illumination may be varied by redefining one or both of the component angle of incidence ranges.

US Patent:
51745097, Dec 29, 1992
Filed:
Jun 21, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/718787
Inventors:
George O. Starke - New Orleans LA
James R. Diefenthal - New Orleans LA
Peter F. Prinz - Pinellas Park FL
Assignee:
Resource Recycling, Inc. - Pinellas Park FL
International Classification:
B02C 2300
US Classification:
241 24
Abstract:
Apparatus and processes for treating an incinerated waste material feedstock to obtain a "free-from-ash" ferrous metal product are disclosed which provide for early separation of the initial feedstock into a predominately ash stream and predominately ferrous metal stream by a two step separation based on size of the material and use of dual trommels or special bar screens and dual magnet arrangements.
