Multi-Element Cavity-Coupled Antenna

View page
US Patent:
20110032164, Feb 10, 2011
Filed:
Dec 29, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/865939
Inventors:
Wladimiro Villarroel - Ypsilanti MI, US
Jesus Gedde - Dexter MI, US
International Classification:
H01Q 1/38
H01Q 9/04
H01Q 1/32
US Classification:
343713, 343700 MS
Abstract:
An antenna () suitable for receiving circularly polarized RF signals from a satellite is integrated with a window () of a vehicle (), such as a roof window (). The antenna () includes a patch element () disposed adjacent to the window (). Radiating strips () forming at least one dipole pair are disposed below the patch element () and connectable to a transmission line. A coupling element () surrounds the radiating strips () and a dielectric layer () is sandwiched between the patch element () and the radiating strips (). A ground plane () is also disposed below the radiating strip (). A conductive casing () perpendicularly surrounds the antenna () elements while electrically connecting the ground plane () to the coupling element () such that the radiating strips () are generally disposed within a cavity ().

Multi-Band Cellular Antenna

US Patent:
7498993, Mar 3, 2009
Filed:
Oct 18, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/874709
Inventors:
Kwan-ho Lee - Ann Arbor MI, US
Wladimiro Villarroel - Ypsilanti MI, US
Nuttawit Surittikul - Ann Arbor MI, US
Jesus Gedde - Ann Arbor MI, US
Assignee:
AGC Automotive Americas R&D Inc. - Ypsilanti MI
International Classification:
H01Q 1/32
US Classification:
343713, 343810
Abstract:
An antenna for receiving and/or transmitting radio frequency (RF) signals at multiple cellular frequency bands is disposed on a non-conductive pane. The antenna includes a first antenna element and a second antenna element. The first antenna element has a first radiating element and a second radiating element arranged together in an opposing relationship to form a first bowtie shape. The second antenna element is spaced from the first antenna element and has a third radiating element and a fourth radiating element arranged together in an opposing relationship to form a second bowtie shape with a different dimension than the first bowtie shape. A first trace element connects to and extends between said first and third radiating elements and a second trace element connects to and extends between said second and fourth radiating elements. The antenna establishes an electromagnetic coupling for dual band operation at the multiple cellular frequency bands.

Window Assembly Comprising Conductive Transparent Layer And Conductive Element Implementing Hybrid Bus-Bar/Antenna

View page
US Patent:
20190261464, Aug 22, 2019
Filed:
Feb 20, 2018
Appl. No.:
15/899506
Inventors:
- Ypsilanti MI, US
Frederick Schaible, III - Grosse Pointe Park MI, US
Jesus Gedde - Dexter MI, US
International Classification:
H05B 3/86
H01Q 1/12
H01Q 13/10
Abstract:
A window assembly comprises a substrate with a transparent layer that defines an area having a periphery. An outer region devoid of the transparent layer is defined adjacent the transparent layer along the periphery. A conductive element disposed on the substrate and comprises a first portion overlapping an area of the transparent layer and abutting and being in direct electrical contact with the transparent layer. The conductive element further comprises a second portion integrally extending from the first portion and disposed in the outer region. The periphery of the transparent layer delineates the first and second portions of the conductive element. The second portion has an area defining an enclosed slot. A feeding element couples to the conductive element for energizing the enclosed slot as a slot antenna. An energizing element couples to the conductive element for energizing the conductive element to implement a bus bar.

US Patent:
20160254586, Sep 1, 2016
Filed:
May 11, 2016
Appl. No.:
15/152003
Inventors:
- Ypsilanti MI, US
- Louvain-La-Neuve, BE
Romain Dacquin - Basecles, BE
Fredrick M. Schaible - Grosse Pointe Park MI, US
Jun Noda - Canton MI, US
Jesus Gedde - Dexter MI, US
Tatuo Yajima - Ann Arbor MI, US
International Classification:
H01Q 1/12
B60J 3/00
H01Q 1/52
Abstract:
A window assembly includes a substrate with an electrically conductive transparent layer that defines an area having a periphery. An outer region devoid of the transparent layer is defined adjacent to and along the periphery. An elongated antenna element is disposed in the outer region. A feeding element couples to the antenna element for energizing the antenna element. The area of the transparent layer defines at least two protrusions being spaced apart from one another and extending integrally from the area and into the outer region. The antenna element abuts and is in direct electrical contact with the at least two protrusions. The feeding element couples to the antenna element at a location between the at least two protrusions or at one of the at least two protrusions.
