Casket Lid And Method Of Making Same

View page
US Patent:
6503429, Jan 7, 2003
Filed:
Dec 8, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/457163
Inventors:
John E. Linville - Louisville KY
Donald R. Maier - Cincinnati OH
Patrick M. Saaf - Batesville IN
Assignee:
Batesville Services, Inc. - Batesville IN
International Classification:
A61G 1700
US Classification:
264112, 264109, 27 14, 27 16
Abstract:
A method of making a one-piece, unitary lid for a casket comprises providing tooling configured to produce a casket lid having a crown, a pie, a rim and a header, providing settable material, preferably a mixture of wood chips arid binder, from which to mold the lid, molding the settable material with the tooling and permitting the settable material to set. The tooling transmits a wood grain pattern into the settable material. The wood grain pattern of the lid is continuous when viewed rotated 180Â about an axis perpendicular to the plane defined by the lid, located medially of the transverse extent of the lid and coinciding with the header end edge of the lid. Thus two such caps placed end-to-end have a continuous wood grain pattern extending from the head end of the casket to the foot end of the casket. Resin impregnated tissue paper is applied to the settable material prior to molding. The resin impregnated tissue paper conforms to the wood grain and conceals the wood chips.

Mechanism For Lifting And Tilting The Bed Of A Casket

View page
US Patent:
55927246, Jan 14, 1997
Filed:
Feb 14, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/195867
Inventors:
John E. Linville - Osgood IN
Olan L. Long - Columbus OH
Assignee:
Batesville Casket Company, Inc. - Batesville IN
International Classification:
A61G 1700
US Classification:
27 12
Abstract:
A casket having a fully combustible, full height lift mechanism for raising and lowering the bed of the casket and for rotating the bed about the longitudinal axis of the casket that includes an integral C-shaped bracket that supports a drive screw, a seat that threadably engages the drive screw for supporting the bed frame of the casket, and integral fasteners for securing the assembly to the casket. The mechanism may include a tilt mechanism supported within the C-shaped bracket. In one embodiment, the tilt mechanism restrains one edge of the seat such that continued rotation of the drive screw rotates the seat. In another embodiment, the tilt mechanism drives an edge of the seat such that rotation of the tilt mechanism rotates the seat.

Each hardware boss is generally hollow and formed to define an interior region that is at least partially bounded by a respective protruded wall offset outwardly from the side wall. A respective first transition wall integrally connects the side wall and respective protruded wall, and a respective second transition wall spaced from the first transition wall and integrally connects the side wall and respective protruded wall, each of the first and second transition walls being formed to include a handle-receiving void, and a handle bar extending through the voids.
