Fiber Optic Articles, Assemblies, And Cables Having Optical Waveguides

View page
US Patent:
20050013573, Jan 20, 2005
Filed:
Jul 18, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/623219
Inventors:
Gregory Lochkovic - Conover NC, US
Sheila Cooper - Hickory NC, US
Leigh Josey - Hickory NC, US
James Register - Hickory NC, US
Larry Self - Newton NC, US
Edward Fewkes - Horseheads NY, US
Michael Winningham - Big Flats NY, US
Michelle Fabian - Horseheads NY, US
International Classification:
G02B006/22
G02B006/44
US Classification:
385128000, 385114000
Abstract:
Fiber optic articles, assemblies, and cables preserve optical performance by using optical waveguides having a core, a cladding, and a coating system according to the present invention. Moreover, the optical articles, assemblies, and cables of the present invention may achieve performance levels that were previously unattainable, for instance, the present invention contemplates acceptable optical performance for wavelengths such as 1625 nm and higher. Additionally, articles, assemblies, and/or cables of the present invention advantageously preserve optical performance, i.e., have relatively low delta attenuation, when subjected to manufacturing processes and/or environmental conditions such as temperature cycling. In other words, the articles, assemblies, and cables can withstand increased stress/strain before having significant attenuation.

Optical Fiber Cable Including Superabsorbent Powder Containing High Concentration Of Flow Aid And Method Of Manufacturing Same

View page
US Patent:
20230003960, Jan 5, 2023
Filed:
Aug 22, 2022
Appl. No.:
17/892278
Inventors:
- Corning NY, US
Leigh Rooker Josey - Hickory NC, US
Joel Laine Parker - Hickory NC, US
International Classification:
G02B 6/44
Abstract:
Embodiments of an optical fiber cable are provided. The optical fiber cable includes a cable jacket and a plurality of buffer tubes contained within the cable jacket. Each of the plurality of buffer tubes has one or more optical fibers disposed therein. A thin film tube is contained within the cable jacket and disposed around the buffer tubes, and an armor layer is contained within the cable jacket and disposed around the thin film tube. Superabsorbent polymer (SAP) powder is disposed between the thin film tube and the armor layer. The SAP powder includes at least 1 wt % of silica particles.

Fiber Optic Cable Structured To Facilitate Accessing An End Thereof

US Patent:
20190049686, Feb 14, 2019
Filed:
Oct 15, 2018
Appl. No.:
16/160001
Inventors:
- Hickory NC, US
Julian Latelle Greenwood - Hickory NC, US
Leigh Rooker Josey - Hickory NC, US
Warren Welborn McAlpine - Hickory NC, US
Jorge Roberto Serrano - St. Johns FL, US
International Classification:
G02B 6/44
Abstract:
A fiber optic cable includes a core, armor surrounding the core, and a jacket surrounding the armor. The core includes tubes, each tube having a passage defined therein, optical fibers positioned in the passages, and a binder sleeve defining an exterior of the core. Portions of the binder sleeve are directly bonded to the armor, while other portions are not. Spacing between the armor and the core, as well as the bond between the armor and binder sleeve, facilitate tubing-off of an end section of the cable to include removal of the binder sleeve.

Filler Tubes For Optical Communication Cable Construction

View page
US Patent:
20160313529, Oct 27, 2016
Filed:
Apr 18, 2016
Appl. No.:
15/131158
Inventors:
- Hickory NC, US
Leigh Rooker Josey - Hickory NC, US
Christopher Mark Quinn - Hickory NC, US
David Alan Seddon - Hickory NC, US
Kimberly Wilbert Smith - Hickory NC, US
Catharina Lemckert Tedder - Catawba NC, US
International Classification:
G02B 6/44
Abstract:
An optical communication cable includes a central strength member, at least one optical fiber, a buffer tube surrounding the at least one optical fiber; and at least one non-solid filler tube defining a cavity, wherein the cavity contains a water-blocking component and no optical fibers, and wherein the buffer tube and the filler tube are stranded about the central strength member.
