Over a study period of three and a half years, Stahl and Lisa Feigenson, a professor of psychological and brain sciences in John Hopkins Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, conducted four experiments on 110 preverbal 11-month-old infants to observe how they responded to surprising and predictable
