Systems And Methods For Efficient Processing Of Multimedia Data

View page
US Patent:
6847365, Jan 25, 2005
Filed:
Jan 3, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/476761
Inventors:
Richard G. Miller - Cupertino CA, US
Louis A. Cardillo - Palo Alto CA, US
John G. Mathieson - Los Gatos CA, US
Eric R. Smith - Halifax, CA
Assignee:
Genesis Microchip Inc. - Alviso CA
International Classification:
G06F 1516
US Classification:
345502, 345505, 712 15
Abstract:
A media processing system is provided including a DRAM that includes a plurality of storage locations for storing digital data being processed by said media processing system, said digital data including video data that is compressed in a standardized format, a system for processing said digital data that includes said standardized format compressed video data to produce compressed video images and image data, a system for decoding said standardized format compressed video images to generate full motion video pixel data, a system for sharing said DRAM between said processing means and said decoding means, and a system for producing a full motion video signal from said full motion video pixel data. The media processing system may also have a system for multiplying or combining a first pixel by a second pixel in a single clock cycle. The media processing system may have a plurality of processing elements connected together in parallel, a system for controlling said processing elements with instruction words that have a predetermined number of instructions, and a system for distributing data simultaneously to each of said processing elements.

Digital Electronic System For Halftone Printing

View page
US Patent:
51404311, Aug 18, 1992
Filed:
Dec 31, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/636299
Inventors:
Louis A. Cardillo - San Jose CA
Assignee:
E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company - Wilmington DE
International Classification:
H04N 121
H04N 140
US Classification:
358298
Abstract:
A system for producing an image by halftone printing generates halftone dots from electronic data by scanning across a raster of write spots in a recording medium, spot-by-spot and line-by-line. Each dot is defined within a repetitive dot template containing a plurality of write spots. The system writes at selective write spots by sending a present write-spot address signal obtained from a write-spot address register to a spot-status Look-Up-Table for selecting a predetermined value for each write spot, the predetermined value determining an on-off status for the present write spot. The spot-status Look-Up-Table has a plurality of predetermined values corresponding, respectively, to addresses of write spots within the dot template. In the present invention, the selective writing step is performed by sending the write-spot address signal also to a pointer Look-Up-Table for generating an address pointer signal uniquely associated with a particular write-spot address code, and transmitting the address pointer signal to the write-spot address register in order to obtain the next write-spot address signal.

Peripheral Card Security And Configuration Interface

View page
US Patent:
59283629, Jul 27, 1999
Filed:
Apr 29, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/841118
Inventors:
Louis A. Cardillo - Palo Alto CA
Sandro H. Pintz - Menlo Park CA
Craig A. Nelson - Aptos CA
Landau F. Edouard - San Jose CA
Assignee:
CagEnt Technologies, Inc. - Santa Clara CA
International Classification:
G06F 1100
US Classification:
713200
Abstract:
Authentication mechanism for interactive home entertainment systems using plug-in cards which do contain software as well as cards which do not contain software. A security bit stream is generated by circuitry on the card and checked by the base system while the system is operating, but only a single signal line of the interface is used for the bit stream. The card also includes a ROM which contains data to be downloaded to the base system. The ROM data is downloaded to the base system via the same signal line of the interface as the serial bit stream. The signal line is used for ROM data download while the base system asserts a "reset" signal, and is used to carry the serial bit stream for authentication purposes whenever the reset signal is negated.

Instruction Compression And Decompression System And Method For A Processor

View page
US Patent:
58190589, Oct 6, 1998
Filed:
Feb 28, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/808735
Inventors:
Richard G. Miller - Los Altos Hills CA
Louis A. Cardillo - Palo Alto CA
John G. Mathieson - Los Gatos CA
Eric R. Smith - Sunnyvale CA
Assignee:
VM Labs, Inc. - Los Altos CA
International Classification:
G06F 930
US Classification:
395386
Abstract:
A system and method for compressing and decompressing variable length instructions contained in variable length instruction packets in a processor having a plurality of processing units is provided that has a compression system with a system for generating an instruction packet containing a plurality of instructions, a system for assigning a compressed instruction having a predetermined length to an instruction within the instruction packet, a shorter compressed instruction corresponding to a more frequently used instruction, and a system for generating an instruction packet containing compressed instructions for corresponding ones of said processing units. The decompression system has a system for storing a plurality of said instruction packets in a plurality of storage locations, a system for generating an address that points to a selected variable length instruction packet in the storage system, and a decompression system that decompresses said compressed instructions in said selected instruction packet to generate a variable length instruction for each of said processing units. The decompression system may also have a system for routing said variable length instructions from the decompression system to each of said processing units.
