View page
US Patent:
40484033, Sep 13, 1977
Filed:
Dec 27, 1976
Appl. No.:
5/754532
Inventors:
Marvin Lee Kronenberg - Cleveland Heights OH
Assignee:
Union Carbide Corporation - New York NY
International Classification:
H01M 614
US Classification:
429194
Abstract:
A non-aqueous lead oxide cell having a negative electrode, such as lithium, a non-aqueous electrolyte, a positive electrode comprising lead dioxide housed in a positive terminal conductive container, and wherein a layer of lead and/or lead monoxide is interposed substantially between the positive lead dioxide electrode and the inner surface of the positive terminal conductive container so as to achieve a substantially unipotential discharge for the cell over its useful life.

Non-Aqueous Electrochemical Cell

US Patent:
44004532, Aug 23, 1983
Filed:
Feb 4, 1974
Appl. No.:
5/439521
Inventors:
George E. Blomgren - Lakewood OH
Marvin L. Kronenberg - Cleveland Heights OH
Assignee:
Union Carbide Corporation - Danbury CT
International Classification:
H01M 614
US Classification:
429196
Abstract:
The invention relates to the use in a non-aqueous electrochemical cell of an electrolyte comprising a solute dissolved in a solvent which is an oxyhalide of an element of Group V or Group VI of the Periodic Table. The oxyhalide solvent serves the dual function of acting as the solvent for the electrolyte salt and as the active cathode depolarizer of the cell.

US Patent:
39960692, Dec 7, 1976
Filed:
Jun 30, 1975
Appl. No.:
5/592026
Inventors:
Marvin L. Kronenberg - Cleveland Heights OH
Assignee:
Union Carbide Corporation - New York NY
International Classification:
H01M 604
US Classification:
429197
Abstract:
A nonaqueous cell utilizing a highly active metal anode, such as lithium, a solid cathode selected from the group consisting of FeS. sub. 2, Co. sub. 3 O. sub. 4, V. sub. 2 O. sub. 5, Pb. sub. 3 O. sub. 4, In. sub. 2 S. sub. 3 and CoS. sub. 2, and a liquid organic electrolyte consisting essentially of 3-methyl-2-oxazolidone in combination with a low viscosity cosolvent, such as dioxolane, and a metal salt selected, for example, from the group consisting of MSCN, MCF. sub. 3 SO. sub. 3, MBF. sub. 4, MC10. sub. 4 and MM'F. sub. 6 wherein M is lithium, sodium or potassium and M' is phosphorus, arsenic or antimony.

Electrochemical Power Cells And Method Of Improving Electrochemical Power Cell Performance

US Patent:
6218055, Apr 17, 2001
Filed:
Jul 29, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/363484
Inventors:
Pinakin M. Shah - New Freedom PA
Marvin L. Kronenberg - Needham MA
Richard F. Bis - Mt. Airy MD
Donald L. Warburton - Fulton MD
Joseph J. Bytella - Baltimore MD
Dayal T. Meshri - Tulsa OK
Assignee:
Mine Safety Appliances Company - Pittsburgh PA
International Classification:
H01M 616
US Classification:
429340
Abstract:
A small, portable electrochemical power cell, having an output voltage of over 4 V, and preferably over 5 V, includes an anode, a cathode having a fluorine compound and an electrolyte having an organic sulfur-containing compound to maintain ionic conductivity between the anode and the cathode. A method of fabricating such an electrochemical power cell includes the step adding an electrolyte having an organic, sulfur-containing compound to maintain electrical conductivity between the anode and the cathode. An electrochemical power cell having a lithium anode, a CoF. sub. 3 cathode, an electrolyte to maintain ionic conductivity between the anode and the cathode and a cobalt complexing material within the electrolyte to complex cobalt ions is described.
