Abstract:
A housing having an integral receptacle which is particularly useful for pencil sharpeners. The receptacle is attached to the body so as to be pivotable between a closed position, for closing a cavity of the housing, and an open position, for exposing the cavity. This is useful, for example, for emptying pencil shavings in a pencil sharpener. Attachment of the receptacle to the housing minimizes accidental opening of the receptacle and spillage of shavings. In the open position, the receptacle also serves as a spout for controlled disposal of shavings. In the preferred embodiment, the housing and receptacle have a mating rib and groove on opposing sides of the cavity which interfit when the receptacle is in the closed position to form a seal trap shavings within the cavity. Additionally, the receptacle is provided with a lower surface and rearward edge positioned to form a seal with the housing when the cover is in the closed and open positions, respectively. The receptacle may be provided with an interlock trigger for engaging and disengaging an interlock switch in the housing to prevent operation of the cutting assembly of a pencil sharpener when the receptacle is in an open position.

Abstract:
A safety needle assembly has a hub and a needle cannula that projects distally from the hub. A shield is mounted on the needle cannula and can move from a proximal position adjacent the hub and a distal position for shielding the tip of the needle cannula. A fin projects from the hub to facilitate digital manipulation of the needle assembly. A proximal arm is hinged to the hub and a distal arm is hinged to both the proximal arm and the shield. The proximal arm is releasably engaged with the fin when the shield is in the proximal position. However, digital forces on the arms enables the shield to be propelled to the distal position.

Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a shieldable blood collection set and a needle assembly. The needle assembly includes a needle cannula having a puncture tip at a distal end, and a needle retraction mechanism including a hub portion at a proximal end which supports the needle cannula, a shield portion at a distal end, and an extendable member hingedly connected therebetween. The hub portion includes a lateral hub extension extending toward a distal end of the needle cannula, and the shield portion includes a lateral shield extension extending toward a proximal end of said needle cannula. Opposing lateral forces applied against the extendable member and an opposing lateral side of the needle retraction mechanism cause relative axial movement between the hub portion and the shield portion between a first sampling state with the puncture exposed, and a second shielded state with the puncture tip contained within the shield portion.

Abstract:
A brush for suede shoes, or any other object made of napped material, hasving a one-piece molded plastic handle having a hollow interior with a planar outwardly-facing bristle-mounting surface, a collar extending annularly about the bristle-mounting surface and a gripping portion extending centrally from the collar transversely oppositely of the bristle-mounting surface. Bristles are embedded in and extend outwardly from the bristle-mounting surface. A hollow removable erasing rubber sleeve is configured for essentially complemental fitting over the gripping portion. Paired apertures and protrusions fit together to retain the hollow removable erasing rubber sleeve in complemental contact overlying the gripping portion of the handle of the brush.
