US Patent:
8086808, Dec 27, 2011
Filed:
Apr 23, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/428696
Inventors:
Naoko Ichikawa - San Jose CA, US
Assignee:
Hitachi, Ltd. - Tokyo
International Classification:
G06F 13/00
US Classification:
711162, 711170, 711E12002, 711E12016
Abstract:
A method of migrating a computer system between a virtualized environment and a non-virtualized environment comprises configuring one or more storage volumes for a migration destination in a destination environment based on a migration request containing a backup requirement specifying one or more copy groups, each copy group including storage volumes that store data for at least one of a virtualized device and a non-virtualized device; converting and migrating data from a migration source in a source environment to the one or more configured storage volumes of the migration destination based on copy group information of the one or more copy groups, one of the source environment and the destination environment being a virtualized environment, and another of the source environment and the destination environment being a non-virtualized environment; and migrating backup unit/group information by replacing copy group information in the source environment with copy group information in the destination environment.

Method And Apparatus For Logical Volume Management For Virtual Machine Environment

View page
US Patent:
8122212, Feb 21, 2012
Filed:
Apr 6, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/418765
Inventors:
Toshio Otani - Sunnyvale CA, US
Naoko Ichikawa - San Jose CA, US
Assignee:
Hitachi, Ltd. - Tokyo
International Classification:
G06F 12/16
US Classification:
711162, 711112, 711114, 711206
Abstract:
Logical volume management for storage subsystem in virtual machine environment is disclosed. In one embodiment, a storage system comprises a storage subsystem including a processor, a memory, one or more virtual disks, and one or more logical disks each corresponding to a physical storage area in the storage subsystem; and a host computer connected with the storage subsystem via a network, the host computer including virtual machines running thereon, the virtual machines each being connected to at least one of the virtual disks or logical disks in the storage subsystem. In the storage subsystem, abstract disks each represent one of the virtual disks or logical disks. An abstract disk management table is stored in the memory of the storage subsystem to manage a relationship between the abstract disks and the one or more virtual disks and between the abstract disks and the one or more logical disks.

Storage Management Command Control In Virtualized Environment

US Patent:
8140810, Mar 20, 2012
Filed:
Jun 4, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/478088
Inventors:
Naoko Ichikawa - San Jose CA, US
Yasunori Kaneda - San Jose CA, US
Assignee:
Hitachi, Ltd. - Tokyo
International Classification:
G06F 12/00
US Classification:
711170, 711156, 711202
Abstract:
Exemplary embodiments of the invention provide a method for creating a command device in a storage system in a server virtualization environment. The storage system is coupled to a host computer having a virtual machine. The host computer includes a memory and a processor. The method comprises receiving a command device registration request to register a command device as a storage device for command transmission, the command device to be used in a virtual machine of the host computer; creating a virtual device by allocating a storage area of the storage system to the virtual device; and mounting the virtual device as the command device to the virtual machine in which the command device is used.

US Patent:
8155766, Apr 10, 2012
Filed:
Nov 3, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/263518
Inventors:
Naoko Ichikawa - San Jose CA, US
Yasunori Kaneda - San Jose CA, US
Assignee:
Hitachi, Ltd. - Tokyo
International Classification:
G05B 9/02
G06F 1/00
G06F 11/00
G06F 13/00
US Classification:
700 82, 711162, 713320, 713322, 714 23, 714 24
Abstract:
A power-saving computer system comprises a plurality of storage areas provided by one or more storage systems, including at least one first storage area which is always powered on and at least one second storage area which is periodically powered on and off according to a power control schedule. The at least one first storage area provides primary and secondary volumes of a first backup set that is scheduled as always paired. For a second backup set that is scheduled as normally suspended and resynchronized according to a backup schedule, a primary volume of the second backup set is included in the at least one first storage area and a secondary volume of the second backup set is included in the at least one second storage area. The at least one second storage area is powered on during every backup time for resynchronizing the second backup set according to the backup schedule.

Storage System Of Storing Golden Image Of A Server Or Any Physical/Virtual Machine Execution Environment

US Patent:
20100250878, Sep 30, 2010
Filed:
Mar 25, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/411293
Inventors:
Naoko Ichikawa - San Jose CA, US
Yasunori Kaneda - San Jose CA, US
Assignee:
HITACHI, LTD. - Tokyo
International Classification:
G06F 12/00
G06F 12/16
G06F 12/02
US Classification:
711162, 711154, 711170, 711E12001, 711E12002, 711E12103
Abstract:
A storage system stores golden image of a server or any physical/virtual machine execution environment and associate the golden image and the storage port. The storage system also creates the copy of the golden image to the logical volume, and allocates the internal path between the storage port and the logical volume. Upon receiving an access request from the host computer via the storage port, the storage system transfers the access request between the storage port and the logical volume which stores the copy of golden image associated with the host computer.
