Method For Moving A Wheelchair Over Stepped Obstacles

View page
US Patent:
54473179, Sep 5, 1995
Filed:
Jul 23, 1993
Appl. No.:
8/097164
Inventors:
Paul R. Gehlsen - Everett WA
Ronald N. Hatcher - Tuscon AZ
International Classification:
B62B 502
US Classification:
280 53
Abstract:
A lifting apparatus is easily attached to a conventional wheelchair and allows the wheelchair to successfully negotiate stepped obstacles, such as steps and curbs. The apparatus includes two parallel base runners that are extended from beneath the wheelchair to the ground to act as a lifting platform. A lifting subsystem then moves the wheelchair vertically and horizontally to the height of the step, and a sliding subsystem then moves the wheelchair forward onto the step. Descending a step is accomplished in a reverse sequence of operations.

US Patent:
62312782, May 15, 2001
Filed:
Feb 17, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/024812
Inventors:
Paul R. Gehlsen - Bothell WA
Assignee:
The Boeing Company - Seattle WA
International Classification:
B23B 3500
B23B 4718
US Classification:
408 1R
Abstract:
A differential positive feed mechanism that is coupled in-line or axially with a drill, reamer or cutter for use in limited access areas and feeds the tool into a workpiece when driven by an external rotary power source.

Floating And Precision Adjustable Cutters For Boring

View page
US Patent:
20180281080, Oct 4, 2018
Filed:
Jun 4, 2018
Appl. No.:
15/997500
Inventors:
- Chicago IL, US
Paul Gehlsen - Bothell WA, US
Assignee:
The Boeing Company - Chicago IL
International Classification:
B23B 29/034
B23B 41/12
B23B 27/16
Abstract:
A cutter assembly for a boring bar may include a cutter body, a cutter-element carrier, and an adjustment assembly having an adjustment element. The cutter-element carrier may be configured to be slidingly received in a channel in the cutter-body. The cutter-element carrier may have a first surface transverse to the first line. The adjustment element may have a second surface defining a position of the cutter-element carrier in the channel when the second surface is in contact with the first surface. The adjustment element may be movable along a second line transverse to the first surface for adjusting the position of the cutter-element carrier in the channel. The cutter body may include first and second recess portions. First and second insert portions may be inserted into the first and second recess portions, respectively, and may define float travel-limits for the cutter body.

Composite Panel Tool

US Patent:
20180105290, Apr 19, 2018
Filed:
Oct 16, 2017
Appl. No.:
15/784501
Inventors:
- Chicago IL, US
Paul R. Gehlsen - Bothell WA, US
International Classification:
B64F 5/10
B32B 37/12
B32B 43/00
B64F 5/40
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for holding a panel. A rigid frame is secured on an aircraft on a rework area on the aircraft. A carrier is attached to the rigid frame. The panel is held on the carrier and the carrier moves the panel about a plurality of axes. The panel moves with the carrier such that the panel has a desired position relative to a rework opening in the rework area. The panel is attached to the aircraft while the panel is held in the desired position relative to the rework opening.

Multi-Axis Adjustment Apparatus For Machining A Workpiece And Associated Method

View page
US Patent:
20170165762, Jun 15, 2017
Filed:
Dec 11, 2015
Appl. No.:
14/966233
Inventors:
- Chicago IL, US
Paul R. Gehlsen - Bothell WA, US
Assignee:
The Boeing Company - Chicago IL
International Classification:
B23B 39/14
B23B 49/02
Abstract:
A multi-axis adjustment apparatus configured to machine a workpiece includes a yoke member having a boring guide, which defines a boring axis and receives a boring element therethrough. The yoke member includes a spine cavity extending parallel to the boring axis. A spine member is partially disposed within the spine cavity, and a fixed member disposed under the spine member which extends along a lateral plane and defines a longitudinal axis. An orthogonal adjustment element operably engages the spine member and is configured to displace the yoke member, relative to the spine member and fixed member, along an orthogonal axis extending orthogonally from the lateral plane. A lateral adjustment element operably engages the fixed member and is configured to displace the spine member and yoke member, relative to the fixed member, along a direction parallel to the lateral plane. An associated method is also provided.
