Automatic Fueling Of Liquid Fuel Burners

View page
US Patent:
20120282559, Nov 8, 2012
Filed:
May 6, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/102857
Inventors:
Samir Barudi - Huntington Beach CA, US
David Merrill - Mount Vernon IA, US
Chris Caron - Stockton CA, US
International Classification:
F24B 1/199
F23C 5/00
US Classification:
431 12, 126512, 431344, 431125
Abstract:
An assembly for creating a fire display from a liquid fuel comprises a fuel receiving reservoir connected to a burner by a conduit, the conduit providing a flow channel for a liquid fuel from the reservoir to the burner. When a container of liquid fuel is placed in a bottle receiving tray the fuel is dispensed into the reservoir and in turn flows into the burner. Flammable vapors over the liquid fuel in the burner can then be ignited. The arrangement provides a continuous feed of fuel to the burner and allows safe replacement of the fuel container and replenishment of the fuel in the burner while the flame is present.

Automatic Fueling Of Liquid Fuel Burners

View page
US Patent:
20130071795, Mar 21, 2013
Filed:
Mar 21, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/426516
Inventors:
Samir Barudi - Huntington Beach CA, US
David Merrili - Mount Vernon IA, US
Chris Caron - Stockton CA, US
International Classification:
F23D 5/14
F24B 1/199
F23K 5/06
US Classification:
431 7, 126512, 431328, 431333
Abstract:
A fire display assembly has a burner tray optionally located within a hollow space in the interior of a non-flammable structure. A porous element on or in the non-flammable structure has extensions from a lower surface thereof extending into fuel in the burner tray. The assembly can include a fuel tray connected to the burner tray by conduits which provide flow channels for liquid fuel between the trays. When a container of liquid fuel is placed in the fuel tray the fuel is dispensed and flows into the burner tray. Fuel in the tray is transmitted to the outer surface of the porous element. Flammable vapors from the liquid fuel at the outer surface are then ignited. The arrangement provides a continuous feed of fuel to the surface of the non-flammable structure and allows safe replenishment of the fuel in the burner while the flame is present.

Fireplace

US Patent:
62271946, May 8, 2001
Filed:
Aug 10, 2000
Appl. No.:
9/635887
Inventors:
Samir E. Barudi - Huntington Beach CA
Rodger Duke Mitchell - Long Beach CA
John R. Kelly - late of Huntington Beach CA
Assignee:
Superior Fireplace Company - Fullerton CA
International Classification:
F24C 300
F24C 302
F24C 304
US Classification:
126512
Abstract:
A gas fireplace is provided having a plenum formed around at least a portion of the fireplace firebox. Room air enters the plenum and is heated by the firebox prior to venting back into the room. Two openings are provided from the outside of the fireplace housing to the plenum. The first opening allows heated air to exit the plenum, while the second opening allows cool outside air to enter the plenum. a mechanism is provided to control the amount of heated air exiting the first opening and the amount of cool air entering the second opening. By controlling the inflow and outflow through the first and second openings, respectively, the amount of the fireplace by-products generated into the room where the fireplace is located such as carbon-monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, heat and moisture are reduced.

Gas Fireplace With Rotating Log Assembly

View page
US Patent:
61290793, Oct 10, 2000
Filed:
Sep 2, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/389667
Inventors:
J. Timothy French - Anaheim CA
Samir E. Barudi - Huntington Beach CA
Assignee:
Superior Fireplace Company - Fullerton CA
International Classification:
F24B 1187
US Classification:
126502
Abstract:
An artificial log is provided for use in a gas fireplace combustion chamber. A portion of the log outer surface has a charred appearance. When the fireplace is turned on and the log is heated, the log rotates to bring the charred surface in view from an open end of the fireplace combustion chamber so as to provide the appearance of a real wood log being burned. When the fireplace is turned off, the log rotates back to a position hiding the charred surface from view so as to have the appearance of a brand new log.

Air To Fuel Ratio Adjustment Device For Sealed-Combustion Type Fireplaces

View page
US Patent:
55536034, Sep 10, 1996
Filed:
Apr 25, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/428019
Inventors:
Samir E. Barudi - Huntington Beach CA
John T. French - Yorba Linda CA
Hardial S. Gore - Buena Park CA
Assignee:
Superior Fireplace Company - Fullerton CA
International Classification:
F24C 300
US Classification:
126512
Abstract:
A sealed-combustion chamber fireplace includes a combustion air to fuel adjustment device comprising an primary air-fuel mixing body having a fuel source inlet at one end and at least one combustion air inlet port disposed through a wall portion of the body. The air-fuel mixture body may be configured in the form of an air-fuel venturi, burner tube and the like to effect mixing together of the air and fuel to form a combustible air-fuel mixture. An air inlet port cover is movably disposed adjacent the air-fuel mixing body and forms an adjustable air combustion aperture by placement of the cover adjacent the air inlet port. Movement of the cover about the body effects opening or closing of the aperture, thereby effecting adjustment of the primary air to fuel ratio of the air-fuel mixture combusted in the combustion chamber. A cover arm is attached to the cover and an actuator arm is movably attached to the cover arm to facilitate adjustment of the aperture, thereby, permitting adjustment of the flame appearance during operation of the fireplace from a position outside of the fireplace.

Karman Vortex Generating Burner Assembly

View page
US Patent:
59846623, Nov 16, 1999
Filed:
Jul 31, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/903667
Inventors:
Samir E. Barudi - Huntington Beach CA
Gary M. Hazard - Morrisville VT
Assignee:
Superior Fireplace Company - Fullerton CA
International Classification:
F23C 500
F23C 118
F24C 300
US Classification:
431 8
Abstract:
A burner assembly for use in a gas burning fireplace for producing flame patterns simulating flame patterns produced by real burning wood, and a method for producing such flame patterns. A preferably cylindrical bluff body is placed into the gas flow path from a supply line dividing the flow into a first and a second flow and generating Karman vortices within each flow. The vortices between the two flows are staggered. Each flow enters into a burner and exits through the burner ports where it is ignited to produce a flame pattern. The vortices create a rotating turbulence within each flow such that each flow has relatively steady flow portions alternating with turbulent rotating portions. This variance in the flow results in flames that have varying intensity, as well as color, and produces flame patterns simulating those produced by real burning wood.

Gas Fireplace

US Patent:
59061979, May 25, 1999
Filed:
Nov 18, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/749959
Inventors:
J. Timothy French - Yorba Linda CA
John R. Kelly - Huntington Beach CA
John M. Simonen - Phillips Ranch CA
Samir E. Barudi - Huntington Beach CA
Assignee:
Superior Fireplace Company - Fullerton CA
International Classification:
F24C 300
US Classification:
126512
Abstract:
A vent free gas fireplace comprises a housing and a firebox within the housing spaced-apart from the housing walls to provide top, bottom, rear and side plenums. The side plenums are divided into upper and lower side plenums. Room air enters the lower side plenum and passes into the rear plenum, the combustion chamber and the upper side plenum. Exhaust gases pass from the combustion chamber through a catalytic converter and into the top plenum. The hot exhaust gases are combined with room air from the rear plenum and pass into the upper side plenums, combining with additional room air, and then out into the room.
