International Classification:
H04B 1/00
US Classification:
455 42, 4551791, 4555561, 455557
Abstract:
A method and system is provided processing channel information may include in a mobile FM radio system including an integrated FM radio transmitter and FM radio receiver, dynamically generating a list of local FM channels, ranking local FM channels in the generated list, and selecting one of the ranked local FM channels for use by the FM transmitter based on neighboring channel interference. The FM radio receiver may detect FM channels being transmitted or not being transmitted, detect a pilot signal or a channel transmission pause. A tuning frequency of the FM radio receiver may be adjusted for scanning and detecting the local FM channels based on knowledge of a location of the FM radio receiver, received signal strength indicator (RSSI), dynamically scanning for local FM channel based on received RDS/RDBS data or country code, and/or carrier error of a related FM signal.

Filed:
Oct 15, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/905159
Inventors:
John Walley - Ladera Ranch CA, US
Nambirajan Seshadri - Irvine CA, US
Scott Bibaud - Santa Ana CA, US
Assignee:
Broadcom Corporation - Irvine CA
International Classification:
H04W 24/00
US Classification:
4554561, 4554042, 455440, 4554562, 4554563, 455457, 370331, 370332
Abstract:
A radio device that is capable of positioning itself within a broadcast radio system includes a receiver operable to receive a plurality of broadcast radio signals, each broadcast from a respective one of a plurality of broadcast radio signal sources. The radio device further includes processing circuitry operable to determine respective call station identification information for each of the broadcast radio signal sources from the broadcast radio signals, measure respective signal quality characteristics for each of the received broadcast radio signals, identify station position data associated with each of the broadcast radio signal sources from the respective call station identification information, and calculate a location of the radio device using the signal quality characteristics and station position data associated with at least three broadcast radio signal sources.

Method And System For Determining Channel Spacing And Configuring An Fm Transmitter

View page
US Patent:
20080233907, Sep 25, 2008
Filed:
Aug 29, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/846989
Inventors:
Brima Babatunde Ibrahim - Aliso Viejo CA, US
Scott Bibaud - Santa Ana CA, US
Siukai Mak - Poway CA, US
John Walley - Ladera Ranch CA, US
Bojko Marholev - Irvine CA, US
International Classification:
H04B 1/18
US Classification:
4551832
Abstract:
In a wireless communication system which may include a mobile device having an integrated FM radio transmitter and a FM radio receiver, a geographic location of the mobile device may be determined. A FM channel map may be determined based on the location and the FM radio transmitter may be configured for transmitting FM signals based on the FM channel map, which may include a list of ranked FM channels. The geographic location may be acquired from received RDS or RBDS signals, received GPS signals, other received wireless signals, and/or from user data. Channel spacing, channel offset and/or frequency band may be determined for the FM channel map. A frequency for transmitting FM signals via the FM radio transmitter may be selected based on the determined FM channel map. The FM radio receiver may also be configured for receiving FM signals based on the determined FM channel map.

Method And System For Processing Results Derived From Detecting Channels Suitable For Fm Transmission In An Integrated Fm Transmit/Receive System

US Patent:
20080233954, Sep 25, 2008
Filed:
Aug 2, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/832858
Inventors:
Brima Ibrahim - Aliso Viejo CA, US
John Walley - Ladera Ranch CA, US
Scott Bibaud - Santa Ana CA, US
Bojko Marholev - Irvine CA, US
Prasan Pai - Mission Viejo CA, US
Siukai Mak - Poway CA, US
Asif Grushkevich - La Jolla CA, US
International Classification:
H04Q 7/20
US Classification:
455434
Abstract:
A method and system is provided for enabling communication, where a FM radio system including an integrated FM radio transmitter and FM radio receiver may use an in-band FM or out of band transmitter to communicate a dynamically generated list with alternate local FM channels to an in-band or out of band receiver of another FM radio device with a FM radio receiver. The generated list of local FM channels may be ranked according to the least neighboring channel interference and may be selected for tuning the FM radio device. The FM radio system and the FM radio device may both scan to generate a substantially matched list of local FM channels. In response to detecting a new signal of a transmitted channel by the FM radio system, the FM radio device may tune to the same channel using an open loop, closed loop or semi-open loop method.

Wireless Earpiece Determining Proximity To User And Operation Based Thereon

View page
US Patent:
20090131124, May 21, 2009
Filed:
Jan 24, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/018834
Inventors:
Scott Bibaud - Santa Ana CA, US
David Murray - Mission Viejo CA, US
Assignee:
BROADCOM CORPORATION - Irvine CA
International Classification:
H04M 1/00
US Classification:
4555752
Abstract:
A wireless earpiece that is configured to fit to an ear of a user includes a sensor for sensing the proximity of the wireless earpiece to the user. The sensor produces a proximity signal indicative of whether the wireless earpiece is engaged with the user. If the proximity signal indicates that the wireless earpiece is engaged with the user, the wireless earpiece automatically initiates communication with a radio device.
