Locomotion Unit For A Tool Support Adapted For Progression Through Passageways

View page
US Patent:
44322712, Feb 21, 1984
Filed:
Aug 17, 1981
Appl. No.:
6/293541
Inventors:
Timothy H. Wentzell - South Windsor CT
Charles B. Innes - Granby CT
Assignee:
Combustion Engineering, Inc. - Windsor CT
International Classification:
F15B 1306
US Classification:
91527
Abstract:
A locomotion unit is remotely controlled to advance stepwise through a passageway by frictional engagement with the surfaces of the passageway walls. A support section is mounted on the locomotion device to bring special tools to bear at predetermined positions within the passageway to which the support is brought by the locomotion unit.

Expandable Eddy Current Probe For Inspecting The Interior Of Tubular Conduits

View page
US Patent:
47976136, Jan 10, 1989
Filed:
Jan 22, 1985
Appl. No.:
6/693427
Inventors:
Timothy H. Wentzell - South Windsor CT
Assignee:
Combustion Engineering, Inc. - Windsor CT
International Classification:
G01N 2772
G01N 2782
G01R 3312
US Classification:
324220
Abstract:
A probe (8) for inspecting the walls of a tubular conduit (40, 42) or the like is provided with a pair of movable arms (20a, 20b) urged outward from a central rod 4 into contact with the tube interior. Eddy current coils (16, 18) carried in the tube engaging ends (32a, 32b) of the arms (20a, 20b) are maintained in a constant, spaced apart relationship with the tube wall interior for increasing inspection accuracy and sensitivity. The movable arms (20a, 20b) can accommodate varying internal tube diameters, expanding and contracting relative to the central rod (4). A sloping nose (2) and tapered arm portions (32a, 32b) assist the probe in traversing the conduit interior.

Latch And Lock Assemblies With Spring-Biased Pivot Bolts

View page
US Patent:
49699164, Nov 13, 1990
Filed:
Mar 23, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/327545
Inventors:
Lee S. Weinerman - Medina OH
Steven A. Mayo - Akron OH
Joel T. Vargus - Parma OH
Thomas V. McLinden - Oxford CT
Timothy H. Wentzell - South Windsor CT
Assignee:
The Eastern Company - Cleveland OH
International Classification:
E05B 1310
US Classification:
70208
Abstract:
Flush mountable latches and locks for industrial cabinets, tool carts, electrical equipment enclosures and the like utilize versatile housings of novel configuration together with push-to-operate handles that are pivotally movable relative to the housings to effect unlatching movements of spring-biased, pivotally mounted latch bolts. The lock-type embodiment has a locking mechanism that is mounted on the housing to selectively permit and prevent unlatching movements of its pivotal latch bolt. The resulting arrangement provides sturdy latch and lock assemblies that employ a small number of relatively movable parts that can be assembled, installed and serviced with ease. Improved features include the provision of a plural part handle assembly having portions that are configured to cooperate with a resilient, weather resistant boot that optionally may be interposed between housing and handle assembly components. Other improvements features include the provision of mounting hardware that readily adapts latch and lock units for mounting on structures of a wide variety of thicknesses, and simplifications that enhance the ease of assembly and improve the operation of components that are employed in the lock-type embodiment.

Latch And Lock Assemblies With Lift And Turn Handles

View page
US Patent:
48380547, Jun 13, 1989
Filed:
Jul 10, 1987
Appl. No.:
7/072175
Inventors:
Lee S. Weinerman - Medina OH
Frank R. Albris - Parma OH
Thomas V. McClinden - Oxford CT
Timothy H. Wentzell - South Windsor CT
Assignee:
The Eastern Company - Cleveland OH
International Classification:
E05B 1310
US Classification:
70208
Abstract:
Flush mountable latches and locks for industrial cabinets, tool carts, electrical equipment enclosures and the like utilize versatile housings of novel configuration together with pivotally nestable and extensible handles that are movable relative to the housing to effect latching and unlatching movements of a resilient foot that is movable by the handle between clamped and released engagement with a keeper, and that is movable with a latch arm between latched and unlatched positions. The lock-type embodiment has a locking mechanism that is mounted on the housing to selectively permit and prevent unlatching movements of the resilient latch member. The resulting arrangement provides sturdy latch and lock assemblies that employ a small number of relatively movable parts that can be assembled and serviced with ease.

Nozzle Inner Radius Inspection System

View page
US Patent:
45260370, Jul 2, 1985
Filed:
Jun 13, 1983
Appl. No.:
6/503978
Inventors:
Timothy H. Wentzell - South Windsor CT
Zoran Kuljis - Zagreb, YU
Assignee:
Combustion Engineering, Inc. - Windsor CT
International Classification:
G01N 2904
G21C 1700
US Classification:
73640
Abstract:
The lip of the inner radius of a nozzle mounted through the wall of a nuclear reactor vessel is sandwiched between a transmitter and receiver of ultrasonic sound. The transmitter scans the internal surface of the nozzle lip while maintained a constant average distance from a receiver scanning the nozzle surface on the reactor vessel side of the lip. The two surfaces intersecting to form the inner radius vary in angle as the surfaces are scanned by the transmitter and receiver. Linkage is shown between the transmitter/receiver and the boom with which they are caused to sweep the lip to simultaneously accommodate the saddle shape of the inner radius and the varying angle between the lip surfaces.
